plugin for Acrobat Reader
sign pro PDF plug-in for Acrobat Reader
Plug-in does not work - error occurred in signature capture
After installing and configuring the sign pro PDF plug-in for Acrobat I get an error "Capture failed - please check that your Wacom signature device is connected"
The most likely explanation for this is that you are using the STU-300 plug-in with a different STU.
The STU-300 plug-in appears in "Apps & features" as "sign pro plug-in for Adobe Acrobat - STU-300".
This plug-in only works with the STU-300 and not with any other type of STU, e.g. a 430 or 530.
Please install the Generic sign pro plug-in
Unable to add a signature using the sign pro PDF plug-in for Acrobat Reader
When trying to create a signature in Acrobat Reader using the Wacom sign pro PDF plug-in an error message appears saying that the signature could not be completed.
The error occurs in acropihandler.cpp, line 404: Error creating signing certificate: CertAddCertificateContextToStore failed
This error with the Acrobat plug-in is known to occur if "Enable Protected Mode at startup" is not turned off in Acrobat Reader.
Please go to Edit \ Preferences \ Security (Enhanced) in Acrobat Reader and ensure that the above option is not checked.
Then restart Adobe Acrobat.
Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Acrobat Reader is required for the sign pro plug-in for Adobe Acrobat
When trying to capture a signature in Acrobat Reader an error message appears saying that the sign pro PDF plug-in is required even though it has been installed.
The most likely explanation of this error is that the sign pro plug-in for Adobe Acrobat is currently only available for 32-bit Adobe Acrobat.
The only remedy is to install a 32-bit version of Acrobat.
Please note that this is the current situation as of Jan 17th 2022 but in future it is possible that a 64-bit version of the plug-in will be developed.
Where can I find the 32-bit version of Acrobat Reader?
Towards the bottom of the page click on the link which says "Do you have a different language or operating system?"
Three drop-downs are displayed in in the red section on the left-hand side of the Web page:
Step 1 - select your operating system
Step 2 - select your language
Step 3 - select the option which does not include the phrase "64-bit".The screenshot below illustrates an appropriate selection for Windows 10 in the UK:
- Click the appropriate download button on the right, i.e. either "Download Acrobat Reader" or "Download Acrobat Pro Trial" as required.
Follow any remaining instructions as needed.
Creation of signature could not be completed - cannot create PKCS#7 signed message
The full error message is as follows:
Error message: "Creation of this signature could not be completed.
Error at File: c:\jenkins\workspace\acrobat plugin\cpp\acropihandler.cpp , Line: 671 exception: Error creating signature:
Cannot create PKCS#7 signed message.
Error = 2148081675"
This error can occur if your (self-signed) digital certificate has expired.
By default the plug-in creates a self-signed certificate with 1-year validity the first time you use it.
Provided that the "Create Certificate" option in the installer is enabled (see screenshot in number 6 below) then it should auto-renew.
Alternatively you can manually generate a new self-signed certificate from the Details Dialog by selecting "New ID" which is the bottom entry in the Certificate drop-down:
You will then be prompted to enter your details for the certicate and you can select a validity period of up to 5 years.
Regardless of you how generate a new certificate, make sure that you select it from the dialog box which appears when signing:
If the dialog box does not appear on your system then it can be enabled as follows:
Go to the list of Programs in Control Panel (may be called Apps and Features)
Select the entry for "sign pro plug-in for Adobe Acrobat"
Click the "Modify" button:
On the "Welcome" screen click "Next":
On the next screen select "Change":
On the options screen click the checkbox for "Show details dialog":
Reboot your PC
The next time you sign a PDF using the plug-in the "Details dialog" should be displayed and you can select your desired certificate
