Frequently Asked Questions
Licensing
A license is needed to use the Signature SDK and there are different requirements depending on the platform. Licenses are supplied as text strings in the JSON Web Token (JWT) format and must be included in your application code.
Windows
The standard Windows Signature SDK can be used free of charge and a license is made available with the sample code. See Getting Started in the GitHub samples:
https://github.com/Wacom-Developer/sdk-for-signature-windows/blob/master/GETTING-STARTED.md
Extended functions require a customer specific license and these include:
- ISO signature format support
- Signature encryption
- Signature capture using non-Wacom devices
To obtain a commercial license you will need to contact your local sales representative – see below.
Mobile – Android and iOS
For initial development download an evaluation license from the developer website as follows:
- Open the Developer Dashboard: https://developer.wacom.com/developer-dashboard. To open the page you will need to login with your Wacom ID
- Select Licences to display the License Keys page
- Click New Evaluation License: The licenses expire after 3 months but can be renewed at any time by revisiting the license key page.
To obtain a commercial license you will need to contact your local sales representative – see below.
In addition to supplying your Wacom ID you will need to provide your application ID when contacting sales:
OS | Description |
---|---|
iOS | Application IDs should match ‘Bundle Identifier’, e.g. displayed under: Xcode->Project->General->Identity |
Android | Application IDs should match the android.defaultConfig.applicationId, found in the build.gradle file. |
Downloading a Commercial License
Once a commercial license has been arranged through Wacom Sales follow these steps to download the license:
- Open the Developer Dashboard: https://developer.wacom.com/developer-dashboard To open the page you will need to login with your Wacom ID
- Select Licences to display the License Keys page
- Licenses created by Sales will be listed on the page and can be downloaded using the Download icon provided.
Contacting Sales
The price of commercial licenses is beyond the scope of this document and will need to be discussed with your regional Wacom Sales representative. To make initial contact use the Contact Sales link on the developer website: https://developer.wacom.com
Having submitted the contact form with your details you will then be able to communicate directly with a sales representative in your region.
Browser support
The Signature SDK includes HTML samples which illustrate use of the Signature SDK API in Javascript. See the samples in https://github.com/Wacom-Developer/sdk-for-signature-windows
The HTML samples will only work in Internet Explorer which is usually not the default browser. Use Open with… Internet Explorer to run the sample code.
The Signature SDK components are shipped as ActiveX controls and for security reasons ActiveX is blocked in all browsers except the now obsolete Internet Explorer.
We continue to supply the samples since they provide a convenient way to use the API. The samples can be modified with a text editor to investigate API options.
To use any other browser install the companion product SigCaptX which uses a Windows service to give access to the Signature SDK API.
A similar set of HTML samples is provided with SigCaptX in https://github.com/Wacom-Developer/sdk-for-signature-sigcaptx-windows
The Javascript needed to call the Signature SDK functions is complicated by the need for indirect calls to the SigCaptX service. For this reason it may be helpful to evaluate the calls using the simpler Internet Explorer samples before moving to the equivalent SigCaptX methods.
The same licensing rules apply to both the Signature SDK and SigCaptX.
